Inspector Cluesew Presents:

Case #110: "No Strings Attached"
Part 5

Merry May © 1998

Join Inspector Cluesew for a venture into the unknown (for awhile, that is!). Instructions for this mystery quilt project are revealed bit by bit, so you won't have a clue to what you're making until you're nearly finished! Choose to make either a Small (45" x 54") or Giant (90" x 108") quilt top as you pillage and plunder those spare strips that keep piling up (you can't hide them from Inspector Cluesew!)

Editor's Note: The first part of this mystery quilt appeared in Lady's Circle Patchwork Quilting prior to its ceasing publication. If you began the quilt based on its publication there, you may now complete it using the instructions that will be published here at The Quilt Channel in six parts every two weeks. The final installment will be posted on Sunday, April 10.

Please read all instructions before beginning. All measurements include 1/4" seam allowances, unless indicated otherwise. Try to be as accurate as possible.

PART 5

Lay out all of the blocks you made during Part 4 of this series into one of the arrangements shown below; OR make up your own arrangement!

HINT: The light/dark layout of this block lends itself quite easily to any of the traditional (or non-traditional!) layouts used for Log Cabin blocks. The diagrams above show only 20 blocks, which would correspond to the Small project size which you may have chosen to make. If you've chosen to make the Giant-size project, you will need to lay out your blocks into a 9-across by 11-vertical arrangement (oh, by the way, you will have one block left over to use for a throw pillow to complement your quilt!). Sew each horizontal row of blocks together. Then, matching seams, sew the rows together to assemble the center of your quilt top.

Now you're ready to go on to the final chapter of Case #110!
