Great Deals: Calendars, Books & Quilts

If you're looking for a great gift for a quilter on your shopping list, the non-profit Alliance for American Quilts is selling a stunning 2006 calendar for a very good price. The quilts pictured were made between 1840 and the present, with contemporary quilts by such masters as Jane Sassaman, Karen Stone and Therese May.

Normally these calendars are sold for $13.99, but if you purchase them from the Alliance website (www.centerforthequilt.org) and say you heard about them on this blog, you can buy the calendar for $9.99, almost a third off.

Another great source of bargain gifts this year is the ongoing weekly auctions by the Alliance on eBay. These sales have been going on for some weeks already, with new merchandise going up every Sunday. But the items going on on Dec. 4 are extra special, featuring not just gorgeous quilts and vintage fabrics but also out-of-print and signed books. You can go to eBay to view these items, or go through the Alliance website (www.centerforthequilt.org). Click on eBay Auction on the home page and you'll go direct to the Alliance auction pages.

In case it is not familiar to you, The Alliance for American Quilts is a non-profit organization that works to document and share the stories of quilts and quilters. The website, which is only part of that mission, works like a virtual museum, and if you hunt around, you'll see it's full of both eye candy and mind candy. In the interest of full disclosure, I recently joined the board. That's also how I know it's a great organization.
