Crazy Quilting for the Millennium
If you thought that the venerable and elegant art of crazy quilting was one of those quilting cul-de-sacs that led to the making of many beautiful works of art but offered no way for future development, think again. Allison Aller has taken the techniques and embellishments of crazy quilting and transformed them with a contemporary color palette and a bold approach that literally reinvents the genre. Having worked on crazy quilts for 30 years, Allison is obviously attracted to the elegance and fussiness of the style, but has taken it to new territory using contemporary techniques and materials. You can see some of her work at her website at http://www.allisonaller.com. Especially interesting is her "Works In Progress Blog," where she talks about her projects and techniques. Of particular note is a large commissioned wall hanging she's been working on, called "K.T.'s Crazy." Scroll down a few entries to see this remarkable quilt.
