Best of the west!

Have you been hit by a wave of nostalgia on seeing the Kaufman fabrics “Happy Trails” series featuring Roy Rogers and Dale Evans? Do you harbor a little cowgirl chic in your soul, or have a Kokopelli heart for the southwest? While searching for quite another fabric this week I happened on Laurah Kilbourn’s store, Extra Special Fabric, home based in Guthrie, Oklahoma and well-represented by a great web site, where you will find a broad, deep collection of western theme fabric attractively presented on the site and easy to order by calling the store at its 1-800-795-2844 number between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time.
Kilbourn is not a quilter, but she does offer a pleasing selection of her own western-style broomstick skirts with decorated-to-match t-shirts, purses, and some unusual and attractive tapestries, faux leather, and other western style offerings besides quilting cottons. She is not afraid of funky, unusual choices, presenting ‘day of the dead’ skeleton cowboys, 40s style pinup girls in western wear, and some hot cars and hot cowboys by Alexander Henry along with classy Moda and Kaufman prints. Whether you want a bandana print or you’d like to feature square dances, barrel racers, pueblo scenes, Hank Williams and western swing, cowpokes, or even ‘girl cows’ posing as cowgirls, Kilbourn’s wide and witty selection of good quality cottons will provide you everything you were wishing for on line. Each set of fabric images is accompanied by a gentle rendition of an appropriate country and western tune.
Kilbourn reports that her most exciting upcoming selection will be hot new Elvis theme prints. And her store is doing so well that next month she plans to move around the corner to a larger space. C’mon little dogies!
